About Social Impact Assement (SIA)

Interested in this subject much because it helps a lot in knowing people. Although it is just consist of 3 credits

SIA is conducted before a development project has started.
To anticipate both positive or negative part of the project towards the surrounding community.

Normally the government will ask a consultant to conduct SIA.
However, due to some inner ssues, the consultant usually prefer to report in the positive perspective such as the growth of economy rather than merely the truely social benefit itself such as comfortable and those intangible values for the community.

Is SIA conducted during or after the development project.
Yes, my lecturer answered. But it is normally not considered as SIA because it has to be started before the project.
The best practice is starting conduct it right after the proposed development plan has been discussed...


Thinking of how to utilize SIA in my own research.
In fact, Malaysia does not too emphasize on this assessment.
I hope I can make it a MUST in any development project, starting from now.
